How to Apply for Public Housing
Step 1: Send in an Application
Our application is available on-line. Print the form and fill it out, then bring it into the office to get on the waiting list. You can also come into the office to pick up a form in person.
Be sure to fill out the Rental History section of the application. We typically need 5 years worth of good rental references in order to approve applications for our public housing units. If you have fewer than 5 years of rental history, professional references may be used instead. The application packet explains more.
Step 2:Tell us if your address changes!
Tell us about changes that affect your housing - just print this form, fill it out, and send it in. Use this form if:
- Your address has changed.
- You want to add/remove people to/from your application.
- Your household income has changed
- You or a member of your household has become disabled.
- Anything else about your application has changed.
Step 3: We will contact you by mail when your name comes up.
The wait for a public housing unit varies, depending on whether or not existing tenants decide to move out.
If you need help right away
We do not have emergency assistance of any kind. If you are at immediate risk of homelessness you need to contact a different agency for help.
There is other subsidized housing available in Yamhill County. These buildings may have apartments available more quickly than you can move into public housing. You can download a list of other affordable units in Yamhill County and call them to see if they have apartments for rent.
You can move into one of these apartments and still stay on our waiting list.
