I started a new job, or lost my current job. What should I do?
You need to inform us in writing within 10 working days of the change! You have a few choices to accomplish this. They are:
-
Print out a change report form from this website, complete it and mail or bring it to the office.
-
Type or handwrite a note to us about the change.
-
Fax your caseworker the form or note.
-
E-Mail the change information to your caseworker.
REMEMBER: You must report the change within 10 working days of when it happened. If you do not, it is considered a violation of our program rules, which could have negative results for you and jeopardize your assistance. Whichever method you use to report the change, be sure to print your name clearly and give us the name, complete address and phone number of your employer or other source of income, which has changed.
I want someone to move in with me. What do I need to do?
You must request it in writing BEFORE the person moves into your home. If you do not and they move in anyway, your assistance can be terminated. Include in the request the person's full name, date of birth and Social Security number. After your caseworker reviews the request, you will need to fill out a packet including the new person's information and turn it in as well. There will be some additional paperwork that you, your landlord, and the new family member will all have to sign. Please note that if we (or your landlord) deny the addition of the new person, that person will not be able to live with you while you are on our program. If they do, your assistance can be terminated.
I want to move to another place in Yamhill County. What do I do?
In order to move, you must first meet ALL of the following requirements:
-
You must have lived in your current unit for at least 1 full year or more and
-
You must be in good standing with your landlord with no money owed to them, and no excessive damages or housekeeping issues at your unit and
-
You must be in good standing with the Housing Authority and not owe us any money.
If you qualify to move, follow the steps below.
-
Give your current landlord a written 30-day notice that you will move. You must make a photocopy for us.
-
Bring the copy of your move notice to the office and fill out an income examination packet (you may also download this and bring us the completed form). Be sure to leave the move notice copy and completed packet for your caseworker to review.
-
Once we have your income examination packet and a copy of your 30-day notice, we will review it to make sure you can move. If you are approved to move, we will issue you a Voucher and give you a Request For Lease Approval Form (Green Sheet). We will also explain the size of the unit for which you qualify.
-
Take the Green Sheet to your prospective landlord to fill out. Note: The landlord is the only one who can fill out their part of the Green Sheet. You cannot fill it out for them. Once completed, it is your responsibility to bring the Green Sheet back to us for review. Note: The Green Sheet MUST be fully completed with landlord's signature or we will not be able to review it and you will have to take it back to them for completion. Also, we cannot accept photocopied, faxed or e-mailed versions of the Green Sheet.
-
When we get the completed Green Sheet back from you, we will review to make sure you "qualify" for the unit. In other words, your income and Voucher size must qualify for the unit. If they do not, we will be unable to consider the unit. If you do qualify for it, we will then set up a time to inspect the unit.
After you have followed these steps, if you qualify for the unit and it passes inspection, we will then be able to assist with your rent there. Note: We cannot begin the assistance payments to the landlord at the new place until it has passed inspection AND you have the key or possession of the unit AND your 30-day notice is up. If the unit has passed inspection and you move in BEFORE the end of your 30-day notice to your old landlord, you will be responsible for paying any rent owed to the new landlord up to that point.
IMPORTANT: Do not move first and then check in with us later! You must follow the steps listed above. If you don't, you can end up being terminated from our program, or not be eligible for the unit you moved into and then have to move again. If you want to move but are unsure about what you qualify for or how the process works, CALL YOUR HOUSING SPECIALIST AND ASK.
I want to move outside of Yamhill County. What do I do?
If you qualify to move, you may be able to transfer your Section 8 voucher anywhere in the United States. Transferring a Voucher is handled much like a simple move, so many of the same rules apply as listed above for moving to a new unit.
Please note that due to funding cuts families will not be permitted to move if there is insufficient funding for continued assistance. You will be denied permission to move if the other housing authority does not absorb vouchers or if their payment standards are higher than ours. Please contact your housing specialist for further information.
