Section 8 Current Residents
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1.) I started a new job, or lost my current job. What should I do?
Put it in writing! You can download our change report form, print it out and mail it in, or you can just write us a handwritten note about the change. Be sure to print your name clearly, and give us an address and phone number for your employer.
2.) I want someone to move in with me. What do I need to do?
You need to submit an application for the person who is moving into your home, and it needs to be approved before they move in. The first thing to do is write a letter to your caseworker and let them know who it is who you want to move in. There will be some additional paperwork that you, your landlord, and the new family member will all have to sign.
3.) I want to move to another place in Yamhill County. What do I do?
You can only move if you have lived in your current house or apartment for more than one year. If you qualify to move, follow the steps below.
- Give your current landlord a written 30 day notice that you will move. Keep a photocopy to bring to us.
- Come into the office to fill out an income examination packet (you may also download this and bring us the completed form).
- Once we have your income examination packet and a copy of your 30-day notice, you need to pick up a voucher and a Request for Lease Approval to take to your new landlord.
- Take the Request for Lease Approval to your new landlord.
- When we get the Request for Lease Approval back from your new landlord, we will schedule an inspection.
- After your 30-day notice to your prior landlord is up and your new unit has passed inspection, you need to come into the office to sign your lease. Once your lease is signed we can start helping with the rent!
You can transfer your Section 8 voucher anywhere in the United States. All Housing Authorities are separate agencies, though, so our agency will not be responsible for your voucher after you leave. Please note that due to funding cuts families will not be permitted to move if there is insufficient funding for continued assistance. You will be denied permission to move if the other housing authority does not absorb vouchers or if their payment standards are higher than ours. Please contact your housing specialist for further information.
